Why It Matters
Navigation is about using a map and compass together with the information around you to make good decisions.
This practical course focuses on the essential skills needed to navigate confidently on simple routes. Through hands-on exercises, you’ll learn to relate the map to the landscape, measure distances, identify features, and build confidence in your own navigational skills.
What to Expect
This is a practical outdoor course. We will spend most of the day walking, observing the landscape and applying navigation skills in real situations rather than sitting indoors learning theory.
There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions, make mistakes and develop confidence through practice. The pace is relaxed, and no previous navigation experience is required.
Suitable For
- Complete beginners
- Walkers who would like to feel less reliant on apps and technology
- People who would like to understand maps properly
- Anyone wanting to become more self-reliant in the outdoors
Equipment
Participants are welcome to bring their own map and compass. Equipment can be provided if required.
